THE OLD LIFEBOAT STATION
02 November 2014
I’m sorry to say this iconic view of Selsey no longer exists.
After many decades in service, the RNLI removed the old lifeboat station in the summer of 2017 and replaced it with a state-of-the-art, shore-based station on the adjacent beach. The new station isn’t quite as beautiful as the old one but it’s very impressive and has room for two lifeboats, a shop, offices, meeting spaces and a viewing gallery for visitors to look at the boats.
I was a frequent visitor to the old lifeboat station and I’ve photographed it in all weather and at all times of the year. She wasn’t the easiest subject to capture because of all of the moored boats that lived nearby – winter was always best, fewer boats in the water, grey skies and moody seas.
There are a few extra photographs in the gallery below. Thanks for looking.
